Heads up, Eagles. Now’s the time to apply for scholarships for the spring semester. The spring 2022 scholarship applications are open from now through Nov. 1 for all OTC students. But, before you get started, we have some need-to-know information and tips to help your application stand out from the rest.

Choose a scholarship

There are two types of scholarships available: OTC Institutional scholarships and OTC Foundation scholarships. Institutional scholarships are provided by the college. These scholarships act as tuition waivers, which simply means a portion of your tuition and fees is taken care of by OTC. Foundation scholarships are a little different — these scholarships are private gifts from local donors. Only one application is required for all foundation scholarships.

Put effort into essays

Whether you’re applying for an institutional scholarship or a foundation scholarship, the essay is a very important component of your application.

First, you’ll need to explain how the scholarship will help you financially. Be specific. How will this scholarship directly benefit you and your education? What needs will it fulfill?

Next, you’ll need to indicate your commitment to your educational journey. What do you hope to accomplish at OTC? What are your long-term goals?

Remember, a solid scholarship essay will help set you apart from the competition. Take your time. Really reflect on your needs and goals, and–as always–check for proper spelling and grammar. If you need help with your essay, be sure to visit the Carol Jones Writing Center in person or virtually.

Be positive

If someone is going to get a scholarship, it might as well be you. Take the application process seriously and apply for as many scholarships as you can.
