SPRINGFIELD, MO – On Tuesday, Aug. 20, Ozarks Tech held a naming ceremony for the college’s newest automotive and transportation partner, Springfield Nissan Kia. This event marked a generous six-figure donation from the local dealership to the Ozarks Tech Automotive Technology Program.

John Widiger, Springfield Nissan Kia managing partner, explained his years of experience in the industry and the important role Ozarks Tech plays developing the next generation of automotive workers made the partnership ideal for the dealership.

“Whether it is in service, parts, sales or auto body, this industry gives individuals the ability to provide for their families and thrive financially. We are happy to support all OTC does to help to spread these opportunities for success,” Widiger said.

Springfield Nissan Kia joins several area businesses and individuals who have pledged support to the Automotive Technology Program and are recognized throughout the Industry and Transportation Technology Center. These funds, in addition to helping the department stay current with changing technology, will assist students facing barriers not related to academics.

“Issues with childcare, transportation and food insecurity can have a big impact on student success, and we are grateful this contribution from Springfield Nissan Kia will help assist students so they can complete their degree or certificate and find valuable employment opportunities in the transportation industry,” said Gabe McLaughlin, Ozarks Tech Automotive Technology Department Chair.

The Ozarks Tech Automotive Technology Department offers Auto Collision Repair, Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology programs. Each program allows students to explore unique topics in transportation and develop specialized skills to prepare them for the jobs they want. Students learn by doing, so each program features opportunities to hone their craft in state-of-the-art laboratories.
