OTC students set the bar high at state SkillsUSA conference

Multiple OTC students brought home the gold earlier this year in the regional Southwest Missouri SkillsUSA District Competition. On April 7-9, the SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference was held at State Technical College in Linn, Missouri. The conference gives students the opportunity to put their technical skills to the test in over 70 career competitions — and once again, OTC students made it their time to shine.

The college had 54 students in 25 different contest areas compete, resulting in 13 gold, 15 silver, and 4 bronze — for a total of 32 medals.

Nine talented OTC students will advance from this competition to the National SkillsUSA Leadership & Skills Conference scheduled for June 20-24, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia: Gabriel Hamlet, Parker Lawson, Myles DeNicola, Ronnie Edwards, Nylah Tay Rogers, Phillip Nelsen, Nick Oliva, Eric Fausto, and Troy Lindsey.

OTC itself was also recognized at the conference for increasing its SkillsUSA membership by more than twenty percent this year. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 student and professional members in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
