OTC technical education students brought home a total of 63 medals from the annual Southwest Missouri SkillsUSA District Competition. The district held competitions in five separate locations with more than 300 students from eleven different career centers/tech centers, taking part in more than 36 different skilled and written contests.
Competitors showcased their skills by completing written and hands-on tests in categories such as computer programming, technical drafting, culinary arts, automotive refinishing and welding fabrication.
“OTC secondary and post-secondary students did their school proud,” said Andrea Twyford, OTC coordinator of high school technical education, and lead advisor for the OTC SkillsUSA organization.
SkillsUSA is a national association that serves teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled, and service occupations. The goal of the organization is to ensure that America has a skilled workforce.
OTC’s winners from the district competition are listed below. 52 students qualify to advance to the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference April 7-9 at State Tech in Linn, Missouri. OTC also has several students, individuals and teams, who will go straight to state. State winners are eligible to compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta this June.
