OTC joins the world of competitive video gaming this month, launching its first competitive esports team and gaming arena.
The OTC eSports Arena debuts on Friday, Feb. 18 with an Open House from noon to 4 p.m. Come see the space, talk to the staff and meet like-minded students who are curious about this new student gaming community.
Open play begins on Feb. 23 for currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. Located on the Springfield campus in Information Commons West, room 117, the arena is the nerve center for Eagles interested in gaming culture. Visit the OTC eSports website at www.otc.edu/esports to learn about hours of operation.
With 12 high-end computers supporting casual and competitive gaming, as well as console gaming, this space will also be the practice home for OTC’s official esports team. Initially, teams will compete in League of Legends, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Players can focus on one game or play multiple games, depending on skill and schedule. Team players will have regular practices for the remainder of this spring semester to prepare for OTC’s first competition season in fall 2022.
