Ozarks Technical Community College students will have another scholarship available to them in the fall of 2017 thanks to the Nancy Higdon Memorial Scholarship. The fund, established by Chancellor Hal Higdon in memory of his late wife, has reached $30,000 since its inception in November 2016. This endowment will allow for the scholarship to be awarded annually to students pursing an accounting degree at OTC.
Mrs. Higdon passed away in November after a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer. She earned her master’s degree in tax accounting from the University of Alabama and spent her professional career as an accounting instructor for Auburn University, Faulkner State Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before she moved to Springfield in 2006 to be with her husband as he assumed his role as chancellor of OTC.
“I am overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the Springfield community,” said Dr. Higdon. “Nancy had a heart for education. It would have made her happy to know that, in her memory, more students will have the opportunity to join the field she loved.”
Individuals can donate to the Nancy Higdon Memorial Scholarship through the OTC Foundation website. To designate the funds, type “In Memory of Nancy Higdon” under gift preferences.
