Spring 2020 scholarship applications are open now through Nov. 1. On average, OTC awards more than $900,000 in scholarships to students each year. Choose a scholarship
There are two types of scholarships available: OTC Institutional scholarships and OTC Foundation scholarships. Institutional scholarships are provided by the college. These scholarships act as tuition waivers, which simply means a portion of your tuition and fees is taken care of by OTC. Foundation scholarships are a little different — these scholarships are private gifts from local donors.
Put effort into essays
Whether you’re applying for institutional scholarships or foundation scholarships (or both), the scholarship essay is very important component of your application.
First, you’ll need to explain how the scholarship will help you financially. Be specific. How will this scholarship directly benefit you and your education? What needs will it fulfill?
Next, you’ll need to indicate your commitment to your educational journey. What do you hope to accomplish at OTC? What are your long-term goals?
Remember, a solid scholarship essay will help set you apart from the competition. Take your time. Really reflect on your needs and goals, and ― as always ― check for proper spelling and grammar. If you need help with your essay, be sure to visit the Carol Jones Writing Center.
Be positive
If someone is going to win a scholarship, it might as well be you. Take the application process seriously and apply for as many scholarships as you can. Check out our infographic below for more OTC scholarship facts.
Read the fine print
After applying, check your school email as well as the OTC Foundation Scholarship Portal regularly. These platforms will keep you informed about the application process and notify you of any additional requirements you may need to fulfill. For example, OTC Foundation scholarships recipients must attend a scholarship orientation and donor banquet each year they are awarded funds.
