REMINDER: Ribbon cutting to be held for Norman K. Myers Technical Education Center expansion

The expansion to the west side of the Norman K. Myers Technical Education Center at Ozarks Technical Community College’s Springfield campus is ready to open its doors to students for the fall 2009 semester.  A ribbon cutting ceremony for the expansion will be held on Monday, August 10, at 1:30 p.m., on the northwest side of the building.  The public is invited to attend.

The $1.8 million building project is possible thanks to funding from the Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative, a part of the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA).

“As our student population continues to grow every semester, this expansion provides much-needed physical classroom space on the Springfield campus,” said Dr. Hal Higdon, president of Ozarks Technical Community College.  “We appreciate the support we have received from former Governor Matt Blunt, the State Legislature, MOHELA and the Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative in providing the funding for the expansion.”

The Norman K. Myers Technical Education Center, named for the College’s founding president, houses classrooms used for general education courses that are required for the Associate of Arts transfer degree, the Associate of Science degree, and various technical certificates, as well as some faculty offices.  The newly completed addition will provide additional classroom space, a commodity that is in greater demand every semester at the College.
