Ozarks Technical Community College will host a Community Welding Day on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Welding Lab, located on the north side of the Industry Transportation and Technology Center, near the corner of Central Street and National Avenue.  Advanced welding students will repair household items brought in by the community in exchange for donations, which will be donated to the March of Dimes, to aid in the research to prevent birth defects.

The student volunteers will be able to repair items made from carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.  Some possible projects for the students include:  lawn furniture, wheelbarrows, lawn mower decks, minor utility trailer or boat repairs, BBQ grills, tables, gates and trellises.

Sponsored by Lincoln Electric, the Community Welding Day is an opportunity for students to not only give back to Springfield and the surrounding areas, but also to gain more hands-on experience before they enter the workforce.  Two student organizations, Skills USA and the student chapter of the American Welding Society, will be represented at the event.

For more details on what items can be brought in for Community Welding Day, contact Welding Instructor Jim Bridwell at (417) 447-8119.
