OTC honor society member to be honored at national convention

Gary Durbin of the Alpha Psi Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society at Ozarks Technical Community College will be among thirty PTK members honored with the 2014 Distinguished Chapter Member Awards. The awards will be presented at NerdNation 2014 in Orlando, Fla., April 24-26. NerdNation is the annual Phi Theta Kappa convention. Recipients will receive commemorative medallions and be honored during the Hallmark Awards Gala.

Durbin, who is working on a business and marketing degree, has been an active member of the local PTK chapter since he was inducted in 2012. Last year, the Michigan native served as the chapter’s communication chair.

Distinguished Chapter Members must be nominated by their chapters through the Hallmark Awards application process and are chosen based on a students embodiment of the Hallmarks of the Society (Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship) through Honors in Action and other chapter activities. Honorees were selected by a panel of judges from more than 150 nominees internationally.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, plus Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, Peru, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. Nearly 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 131,000 students inducted annually.
