The OTC Fine Arts Gallery will host the annual Central Ozarks Conference Annual Juried High School Art Exhibition on Friday, April 4.

For the last five years, the gallery has been the home of the juried exhibition promoting some of our local and regional high schools’ young emerging artists. Six high schools will be representing 27 different art categories. This year, the event will again be featured during April Art Walk with the awards ceremony beginning at 7 pm on the 3rd floor of the Gillioz Theatre.

The OTC Fine Arts program will also take the downtown center stage on Park Central Square to promote OTC student talent in the visual, performing and musical arts from 6-10 p.m. during First Friday Art Walk. This year’s event, SYNERGY, will include music, live painting and theatrical performers elaborating the themes of Creation, Discovery, Transformation and Celebration.

OTC students and alumni, as well as OTC music faculty, will perform from 6-9pm.Sunset to Burns, the band led by OTC electronic media production instructor, Jeff Johnson, will take the stage at 9 p.m.

Members of the OTC Fine Arts Department, will also be collaborating with Gerard Nadeau, assistant professor at the Hammons School of Architecture at Drury University and art activist with ideaXfactory, to present a sound event titled, Morning Song/ Evening Song. The enactment of the evening song chorus will occur on the square in collaboration with OTC as a live painting of a theatrical backdrop takes place at the performance stage.

Morning Song/Evening Song volunteers will disperse on the Square, and the leader of the evening song chorus will signal the beginning of the smart mob chorus, which will end at sunset. During this time, live painters will add accurate depictions of downtown/West Meadow songbirds to the theatrical backdrop. A performance of the song Birdsong, which is an original song written by an OTC music alumni student, is expected to follow.
