Throughout the month of October, OTC faculty, staff and students are invited to support Sammy’s Window, a service of the Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association.
The mission of Sammy’s Window is to provide clothing, food and personal care items for foster families. Because of the nature of foster care, families often are not given much notice regarding the placement of children within their care. Sammy’s Window helps alleviate those concerns by providing supplies to help meet the practical needs of these children and families.
Donation bins are set up in the common areas of each OTC campus and center. At the Springfield Campus, donated items can be brought to the OTC Foundation office, located in Information Commons 206. Items needed include supplies that a household might not keep on hand, but would need immediately upon receiving notice of a child being placed in their care:
• Baby items (diapers, formula, wipes)
• Hygiene items (tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo/conditioner, hair de-tangler, ethnic hair care products, feminine hygiene products)
• Non-perishable foods (canned veggies, canned fruit, mac/cheese, Ramen noodles, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, tuna)
• School supplies
This year marks OTC’s third year of joining Missouri State University, Drury University, Evangel University, and Southwest Baptist University for a joint collegiate service effort. More information about Sammy’s Window can be found here.
