A team of students from Ozarks Technical Community College’s Surgical Technician program has taken first place at the Missouri Association of Surgical Technologists’ Annual Scrub Bowl.  This is the fourth year the College has participated in the competition, which consists of a written examination made up of questions taken from the Surgical Technologist Certification exam.  The College’s team has brought home either first or second place each year.

This year’s winning team consisted of students Jacklyn Skaggs, Tara Barnes and Chris Beaty, all of Springfield, and Joy Cochran of Lamar.  Ten of the program’s 17 students attended the event, which was held in St. Louis as a part of the Missouri Association of Surgical Technologists’ Annual Convention.

Graduates of the College’s Surgical Technology program receive a certicate or an Associate in Applied Science degree designed to prepare them for the national certication exam administered by The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.  Job opportunities include hospital surgery or labor and delivery areas, outpatient surgery centers, or as private scrubs for individual surgeons.
