A team of students from Ozarks Technical Community College’s Surgical Technician program has taken first place at the Missouri Association of Surgical Technologists’ Annual Scrub Bowl. This is the third time in the last five years that the team has placed first in the competition, which consists of a written examination made up of questions from the Surgical Technologist Certification exam; they received second place the other two years.
This year’s winning team consisted of students Tabitha Allen, Kayla Spidle, Amber Snider, and Kristin Ownby (alternate). Additionally, another student, Kevin Shatswell, won one of two $250 scholarships awarded at the competition.
Graduates of the College’s Surgical Technology program receive a certicate or an Associate in Applied Science degree designed to prepare them for the national certication exam administered by The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Job opportunities include hospital surgery or labor and delivery areas, outpatient surgery centers, or as private scrubs for individual surgeons.
