Ozarks Technical Community College’s Middle College will hold a celebration event and orientation for its 38 incoming students and their families on Monday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m.  The event will be held in room 100 of the Information Commons West on the Springfield campus, 1001 E. Chestnut Expressway.

The Middle College, developed in partnership with the Springfield R-12 school district, was created to help underachieving students to complete their high school education while earning free college credit.  The students, who are selected through a series of assessments and interviews, choose between the Early Childhood Development, Diesel/Automotive Technology, and Medical Services programs at the College; they also participate in an internship at a related business.  The Middle College opportunity is the first of its kind in Missouri.

The event will include remarks from students in the Middle College, representatives from the Springfield R-12 school district, Ozarks Technical Community College President Dr. Hal Higdon, and Dr. Shirley Lawler, associate vice president of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development for the College.  Additionally, incoming students and families will meet with instructors from their chosen program.
