GED/HSE and Middle College ceremonies scheduled

Nearly 400 students will receive their General Equivalency Diplomas (GED) or High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma from Ozarks Technical Community College at a ceremony on Tuesday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Gillioz Theatre in Springfield.

It is a joyful program, said Ramona George, director of OTCs adult education and literacy, in describing the event that draws an enthusiastic audience of family and friends.

This years ceremony will mark the last time GEDs will be issued. In the future, all diplomas will be called the High School Equivalency, named after the test that is being used to replace the GED.

The OTC Middle College will graduate 41 students from the unique high school program on Wednesday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield.

OTC Middle College is a contemporary, academic pathway for students who are struggling within the limitations of traditional high school and may be ready for a more mature environment.

In addition to several student speakers, Dr. Norm Ridder, superintendent of Springfield Public Schools will speak at the OTC Middle College ceremony.

Both events are open to the public.
