Military veterans who are interested in attending college can learn about free benefits to help them get college ready at the Veterans Upward Bound Meet and Greet. The event will be held at Ozarks Technical Community College on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. in room 221 of Information Commons West.
Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a federally-funded program designed to help men and women who served the country prepare for college by assisting them with the college application process, financial aid and veterans’ benefits forms, academic reviews and tutoring.
If a veteran is currently in college or had previously attended college and is looking to re-start his or her pursuit of a degree, the VUB can help with the re-enrollment process and tutoring.
“We are here to give local veterans the support and resources they need to be successful in college,” said Michelle Ciesielski, VUB director. “All of our services are free, and we’re here every step of the way starting with the college application process all the way to graduation.”
At the meet and greet event, veterans can meet the VUB staff, take a tour of the college, and, if they choose, enroll in the program.
To qualify for the Veterans Upward Bound program, students must live in Greene County and have better than a dishonorable discharge from one of the five branches of the United States Military.
The Veterans Upward Bound program is entirely funded by a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for five years.
