Nine students from Ozarks Technical Community College earned national medals at the SkillsUSA Championships, held June 25-29 in Louisville, Kentucky. The championships took place as part of the SkillsUSA 54th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference.
At the event, more than 6,000 career and technical education students competed in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields. Students worked against the clock and each other to prove their expertise in occupations such as computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts.
OTC student Randall Meyer won a gold medal in Information Technology Services. Yavor Rangelov and Chase Elliott took home silver medals in Digital Cinema Production. A team of four students, Noah Davidson, Darrel Dugger, Cody Friend and Matthew Williams, won bronze in Broadcast News Production. Chase Dickerson took home the bronze in Computer Programming, and Bryant Crow, an OTC Career Center student, also earned bronze in HVAC and Refrigeration.
In total, 29 OTC students competed in the SkillsUSA Championships this year. They advanced to the national competition by winning the Missouri SkillsUSA competition held in April. Of the 29 students who competed at the national level, 22 placed in the top 10 of their divisions.
