The beginning of school is less than a week away, and we at OTC are ready to kick it off with our yearly Back to School Bash tradition. Your first week on campus will be engaging, fun-filled, and food-stuffed. How great does that sound?
Check out our Back to School Bash events at the Springfield campus below, and make plans to attend between classes (of course). If you’re attending a campus or center outside of Springfield, be sure to check the campus calendar to see what Back to School Bash events are being held in your area.
Oh, and before we forget: We love to see how much fun you and other students are having on campus! Share what you’re up to on social media by tagging OTC in your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts. If you’re a Snapchatter, be sure to use the OTC filters on campus and share them with us (our username is ozarkstech).
Eclipse Watch Party
Monday, August 21
11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Student Plaza, Springfield Campus
Who would want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? And no, we aren’t being dramatic. OTC’s Physical Sciences department is sponsoring an Eclipse Watch Party and giving out free viewing glasses for the country’s first coast-to-coast solar eclipse in 99 years. Heads up: We only have a limited supply of glasses available, so make sure to arrive early or get your own NASA-approved glasses before the event (seriously, we don’t want you blinded by celestial anomalies). For information on how to safely view the solar eclipse please visit this link.
Peak time to see the eclipse is at 1:13 p.m., but no such peak exists when partaking in all five food trucks that will be on location for the event.
Donuts with the Deans
Tuesday, August 22
9-10 a.m.
Jared Family Atrium, Springfield Campus
Start your morning off right with some Starbucks-sponsored coffee and donuts. While you are there, stop and say hello to our academic deans. This is a perfect time to ask any questions you might have, even if it’s a simple “So what do you do at OTC?”
What’s Your Dream?
Wednesday, August 23
Noon
Jared Family Atrium, Springfield Campus
You have a dream, we have a plan. You also have artistic talent, and our Fine Arts department has a collective art project you should participate in.
To celebrate the return of the Fine Arts department to the Springfield campus, the department is eager to complete its unique take on a Van Gogh classic: a wall filled with student wishes, color coded to replicate “Starry Night.” With over 10,000 wishes wrote and only 2,000 more to go, we know that the Back to School Bash will create some art worthy of the MoMA.
Have a Sweet Semester
Thursday, August 24
Noon to 2 p.m.
Jared Family Atrium, Springfield Campus
OTC’s Counseling Services offers confidential, in-person and distance counseling for a variety of issues such as test anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief, and stress management. They’re also offering free ice cream to welcome you back to campus (and we heard there may be an ice cream eating contest too, so bring your sweet tooth).
But in other words, they’ve got your back this fall. Better get your sugar-rush before rushing back to class.
Student Organization Fair
Friday, August 25
Noon to 2 p.m.
Jared Family Atrium, Springfield Campus
Did you know there are more than a dozen student organizations waiting for someone like you to join? We’re hosting a fair on Friday so you can learn more about each and every one.
And if you don’t see a student organization that speaks to you, no worries. Student Services will be there to offer the support you need to start an organization yourself.
